At a special panel of the Kyiv City Planning Council ESTA Holding Company presented the project of reconstruction of Kyiv Central department store (Minutes of the meeting).
"For us it is very important to consider the issue of reconstruction of such a serious object as TSUM with maximum attention, - says Robert Bishop, Director of Benoy architectural company – the project developer. – We aim to bring new impressions, feelings and spirit to this historically important building, at the same time taking into account and not defying its meaning for the city. That’s why we wanted to know the opinion of our Ukrainian colleagues".
The general recommendations for improvement of the project concerned the part of the facade constructed in 1958. In particular, the members of the City Planning Council recommended to consider how the object after the reconstruction shall comply with the architectural ensemble of Khreshchatyk street. In general the project of the renovated department store was appreciated by architects.
"Notwithstanding that the discussion of the project of reconstruction is not obligatory by law, we decided to present it and hear the opinion of the experts. – Says Maksim Gromadtsov, the Executive Director of ESTA Holding Company – the investor of the project. – In course of the project improvement we will obligatory tale into account the proposals we receive from the City Planning Council".
Maksim Gromadtsov also emphasized: "TSUM has always been a department store No.1 in Ukraine and we will preserve its top position. We have estimated that about 30 000 - 40 000 people shall go shopping there every day, it means that every Kyiver about 4 times a year will shop in TSUM ".
A complete video of the City Planning Council session will be published at the official site of ESTA Holding Company in the nearest time.
As the result of the reconstruction the ESTA Group plans to double the total area of the store - up to 37 740 m2 and construct the underground parking lot with 200 places using the area of courtyard and underground space. All the structures of the Central Department Store except facades will be disassembled. Main facades of the building, constructed in 1939, will be reinforced and kept intact.
After the completion of the reconstruction the Central department store will keep its format of a traditional department store, with the attraction of professional operators who understand the market, offering a democratic pricing policy and wide range of goods. On two underground levels there will be a parking lot, from first to sixth floor — men’s, women’s and children’s clothing and household goods, and cafes and restaurants will be situated on the roof with overview terrace. The project also includes a food department that will be convenient to those who live and work in close proximity to the Central Department Store.
